To gather data for her study, Larghi consulted with Mosaico and Promobit to discover the best time to buy an iPhone at a lower price in Brazil. By researching the prices of the iPhone 13 on various e-commerce websites and marketplaces, she found that the current average price ranges between R$4350 and R$4500, which represents a 34% reduction from the launch price of R$ 6,599.

Despite this price drop, Mosaico suggests that this may not necessarily be the best time to buy an iPhone. In fact, according to Buscapé, one of the sites used by Mosaico to track iPhone prices, in the previous year there were times when the iPhone 13 sold for R$ 3,999 or even R$3,680, which was towards the end of August.

Similarly, towards the end of September, when the iPhone 14 was launched overseas, the iPhone 13 was sold for R$ 4,299. During Black Friday, the iPhone 13 was available for R$ 4,329. Mosaico’s data indicates that the current price is close to the average price of R$ 4,578.29.

Larghi requested that Mosaico and Promobit gather data on iPhone prices after the launch of a new model. For example, after the launch of the iPhone 12, how did the price of the iPhone 11 evolve? And after the launch of the iPhone 13, when did the iPhone 12 become cheaper?

According to the data gathered by the two companies, in October of 2020, one month after the iPhone 12 was launched, the price of the iPhone 11 was 28.90% cheaper, costing R$ 3,554.10. And in May 2021, one month after the iPhone 13 was launched, the price of the iPhone 12 was 21.60% cheaper, costing R$ 4,099.

Mosaico’s study also suggests that, in general, the lowest prices for older iPhones occur after the launch of a new model, usually in September. However, there is no exact pattern for each model as this depends on market supply and demand.

Despite this, it is generally true that the best buying opportunities tend to be during the launch of new models and on Black Friday. Therefore, it is important to regularly conduct thorough research to find good purchasing opportunities. Comparison websites can be helpful in achieving this goal.
